Trilliant and Smart DCC Sign Deal to Develop Solution to Provide Interoperability between SMETS1 Meters throughout Great Britain
Raleigh, N.C. – (October 5, 2017) – Trilliant Networks, a key technology provider of the most widely used AMI solutions in the United Kingdom, and Data Communications Company (DCC), the company that built Great Britain’s data and communications infrastructure to support the mass rollout of smart electricity and gas meters to homes and small businesses, finalized a development deal that could enable Trilliant’s communications hub to be enrolled into the smart meter rollout program.
The Trilliant solution will resolve interoperability issues within the existing SMETS1 estate while delivering a convenient and secure solution that provides similar functionality as SMETS2.
“This agreement provides longevity to the current install base without interrupting the customer’s current install,” said Andy White, Trilliant chairman and CEO. “We are able to provide pre-payment and dual fuel options and a dynamic CAD consumer engagement in home display.”
The Data and Communications Company (DCC) is responsible for establishing and managing the common infrastructure necessary to support the main rollout of millions of smart electricity and gas meters. It forms part of the government’s wider Smart Metering Implementation Program. Funded by the energy industry, this infrastructure will connect
smart meters to the business systems of energy suppliers, network operators and other authorized service users. DCC offers a secure, consistent service and avoids the complexity and duplicated costs of energy suppliers installing their own systems. The DCC system will transform how energy is supplied and give consumers greater control over their energy use.
