The University of Salford and Trilliant Networks Partner to Simulate a Smart Energy Home

Partnership can help to reduce the end use energy demand of buildings.

Vienna, Austria – (November 6, 2018) – Trilliant, a global provider of industrial internet of things (IIoT) and smart energy communications solutions, partnered with University of Salford to embed Hybrid Wireless Communications Technology solutions in their Energy House.

The School of the Built Environment is home to the unique Energy House – the only fully climate-controlled research facility in the world. This full sized two bedroom terraced house is built inside an environmental chamber can replicate almost any weather conditions. It is fully furnished and packed with a vast array of sensors that can monitor a wide range of variables throughout the house and chamber.

Energy House is home to the Applied Buildings and Energy Research Group (ABERG, within the University of Salford UPRISE Research Centre), a multidisciplinary team dedicated to investigating the issues of energy use within buildings. These kind of problems can range from issues around materials, systems and controls, as well as the way people use energy in their homes. Research such as this is important because 30% of all the energy used in the UK is used in our homes and 45% is used in all buildings.

“User interfaces will grow significantly with solar generation for local or community energy, generation, energy storage, EV and V2G, and increased adoption of enhanced smart appliances,” said Richard Wiles vice president of sales for Trilliant Networks. “Our partnership with the University of Salford enables easy energy usage and profiling, tariff control and alarms to help develop best practices for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) innovation led research in a real-world energy environment.”

Trilliant connected smart devices and the Trilliant UnitySuite Head End System (HES) enable whole-house, continuous energy monitoring in a simulated weather-controlled environment which considerably reduces development time and costs associated with in-field testing.
