Trilliant Continues to Support Smart Meter Rollouts for Islands with Essential Technologies and Services

Bangkok, Thailand Enlit Asia 2022 September 20, 2022 – Trilliant, a leading international provider of solutions for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), smart grid, smart cities and IIOT, has recently launched smart meter island deployments for Isle of Man, Aruba, a Malaysia island and the Dominican Republic.

The most recent island deployment comes from Manx Utilities which has kicked off the first phase of a roll-out of Smart Electricity Meters for 8,000 prepayment customers across the Isle of Man. Manx Utilities is a statutory board of the Isle of Man Government and is the sole provider of electricity on the Island, providing its customers with safe, reliable, efficient and economic power in addition to supplying natural gas, clean water, processing waste water and managing a commercial telecoms network.

This partnership enables smart capabilities for the Island by replacing their existing electricity meters with a new AMI platform, which will provide connectivity for nearly 50,000 properties including residential, industrial and commercial clients, with plans to expand to enable additional smart grid technologies in the future.

In 2021, Manx Utilities deployed Trilliant’s technology to deliver exceptional coverage, capacity, network longevity, stringent security and overall performance across the Island. Trilliant will also support smart water and gas meters installations as well as smart grid monitoring applications.

The infrastructure upgrades have begun with 8,000 prepayment customers, whose electricity meters are being replaced with smart meters. The smart meters operate on a “pay as you go” pre-pay system that customers can access with the utility’s Smarter Living app. In the app, prepayment customers can see real-time updates on their energy use and top up their credit. It allows them to gain greater visibility of their electricity usage, which could help them to save on energy costs.

The smart meters will notify Manx Utilities about power outages and energy use patterns. The electricity provider will be able to reduce waste by fine-tuning energy production based on insights from the smart electricity system.

Following the roll-out of smart meters to Manx Utilities’ prepayment customers, upgrades at remaining domestic, commercial, and industrial locations will start in 2023.

Trilliant and Manx Utilities plan to expand the infrastructure with additional smart grid technologies in the future.
