Trilliant Networks HES Implementation Processing 100 Million Reads and Events Daily in the United Kingdom
With nearly 12 Million End Points in the United Kingdom alone, Trilliant is Connecting the UK
Raleigh, NC – (November 5, 2018) – Communications solutions leader Trilliant, a global provider of industrial internet of things (IIoT) and the United Kingdom leader in provision of communications and secure data management products, has delivered equipment and applications that support more than 12 million Communications Hubs, Electricity Meters, Gas Meters and In-Home Display (IHD) devices installed in UK homes.
Trilliant Networks is committed to helping deliver the UK Smart Metering Implementation Programme (SMIP), an energy-industry led programme which aims to roll-out approximately 53 million smart electricity and gas meters to domestic properties and non-domestic sites in Great Britain by 2020. This will impact approximately 30 million premises.
“The aim of the SMIP is to provide consumers with “real time” information on their energy consumption to help them control and manage their energy use, save money, reduce carbon emissions, bring an end to estimated billing, and make informed purchasing decisions reducing the barriers to switching between suppliers,” said Gerry Conboy, systems integration lead at Trilliant. “It also aims to support Great Britain’s transition to a low carbon economy and meet some of the challenges in ensuring an affordable, secure and sustainable energy supply.”
The “Trilliant Estate” of 12 million devices creates and stores in excess of 100 Million meter readings and event updates every day, with readings being taken in line with customer preferences at intervals of one month, one day or every 30 minutes.
Typical event notifications include; tariff Updates, price changes, prepayment “top-ups”, over-the-air (OTA) firmware upgrades, mode change between credit and prepayment, system and device utilization information, change of supplier events, change of customer or tenancy events, tamper alarms, power off/on for outage notification, and remote disconnect/connect for maintenance.
“Smart Nations are looking to develop an open secure platform that allows any smart device to interconnect with a flexible head end system offering independent business analysis and big data AI add-ons,” said Tom Tipple, managing director of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for Trilliant. “This allows Smart Nations complete flexibility to build a truly smart infrastructure with best in class end points and business analysis applications.”
Trilliant technology allows meter operators and utility companies to precisely configure frequency and timings for meter readings and events to communicate either in real time or scheduled, with the vast majority being pushed to the Trilliant Head End System (HES) during a 90-minute processing window overnight.
Trilliant has also developed an Energy Industry Data Hub solution that will allow all UK Energy Suppliers and Network Operators access to their specific device data from a central national data provider, this system will go-live in 2019.
