Victoria Electric Cooperatives Disaster Recovery Efforts Recognized in The Global Power & Energy Elites 2020
Raleigh, NC – (November 14, 2019) – Victoria Electric Cooperative (VEC) has been recognized for excellence by the Global Power and Energy Elites for their innovative use in the AMI and Smart Metering Category.
The Energy & Power Elites showcase the industry’s innovation, highlighting twenty projects that exemplify best practices across the globe. The awards are based on unique financial models, electrifying communities, challenging the technology status quo, evaluating smart city innovations, and achieving project milestones.
VEC is an electric cooperative that has served residential and commercial members throughout Southeast Texas for the past 80 years. In 2017, the town experienced the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Harvey, a category 4 hurricane and one of the strongest storms to ever hit Texas.
“Losing nearly 100 percent of power, we were impressed that 95 percent of the membership was able to be restored power within ten days,” said Richard Tristan, VEC’s AMI supervisor. “Trilliant’s support was amazing and our members could not have been more pleased by the quickness of the restoration.”
VEC leveraged Trilliant’s SecureMesh® Neighborhood Area Network (NAN), SecureMesh® Wide Area Network (WAN), and UnitySuite® platform to quickly locate and mobilize teams to restore power to 95% of members within ten days of Hurricane Harvey’s landfall.
