Job Description:
Trilliant builds the network and endpoint technology that powers advanced metering and grid-edge solutions for utilities worldwide. As Product Manager for a device product line, you own the market requirements and product intent for a family of metering or IoT endpoints — deciding what to build and why, and carrying that product line across its full lifecycle from concept through general availability to end-of-life. The ideal candidate would have domain experience in Electric Metering (electric meters and metering communications modules, including integration of third-party meters) or Multi-Commodity & Smart City (gas and water metering plus smart-city / IoT endpoints such as streetlight controllers and sub-metering).
Position Responsibilities:
- Own the market requirements and product intent for your device line, including the business case and a defensible answer to what to build and why.
- Author clear, well-structured market and product requirements, translating customer and market needs into engineering-ready specifications.
- Build, maintain, and communicate the product roadmap for your line, and keep it aligned to strategic priorities and commercial commitments.
- Partner with hardware and firmware engineering to turn product intent into buildable designs, and support manufacturer, vendor, and integration decisions.
- Manage the full product lifecycle — from concept and development through general availability to end-of-life — and the transitions between stages.
- Prioritize a constrained roadmap across new capability, sustaining work, and technical debt, and make and defend the resulting trade-offs.
- Own competitive and market positioning for your device line, and track the standards, regulatory, and certification requirements that apply to your commodity.
- Engage directly with utility customers and field teams to validate requirements against real-world deployment and drive adoption.
- Coordinate across product management, engineering, and go-to-market functions to ensure your devices interoperate cleanly with the platforms and solutions they are part of.
Position Requirements:
- 3—5 years in product management, technical product management, or product ownership, ideally for connected hardware, metering, or IoT devices.
- Demonstrated ownership of a product or product line across its full lifecycle, from requirements through general availability.
- Proven ability to author market and product requirements and translate customer needs into engineering-ready specifications.
- Experience working directly with hardware and firmware engineering teams and with external manufacturers, contract engineering, or integration partners, with the ability to drive collaboration toward a common project objective.
- Experience building and maintaining product roadmaps and managing competing priorities under real constraints.
- Customer-facing experience with utilities, energy, or comparable regulated-infrastructure buyers.
- Technical fluency sufficient to make sound trade-offs and write prescriptive requirements — comfortable with communications/RF concepts, device standards, and metering or metrology fundamentals.
- Strong written and verbal communication; able to turn ambiguity into a clear, defensible set of requirements.
- Willingness to travel to customers, manufacturing and integration partners, and internal teams.
- Preferred domain experience (depth in either profile qualifies you for the corresponding opening; we do not expect one person to bring both):
- Electric Metering — electric metrology; ANSI C12 and/or IEC metering; revenue-grade metering; metering communications modules; and integration of third-party meters.
- Multi-Commodity & Smart City — gas and/or water metering (encoder/register technology, battery-powered endpoints); and/or smart-city IoT such as streetlight control nodes, sub-metering, and sensor endpoints.
Education/Certification;
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering, computer science, or a closely related technical field — or equivalent professional experience.
